• Reach out to your pregnant friends during this time!

As a new mother, I can only imagine how you are all feeling right now. Women around the world are preparing for a childbirth and are going into labor every minute of the day. As if being pregnant isn’t hard enough moms all over have to deal with a lot of extra precautions. First, you have to cancel your baby shower, then you find out you can’t go to your gyno for your 36-week check-up. Your next appointment will be done virtually or through telemedicine. You can’t cancel your due date and hospitals all around the country right now are permitting only one person to accompany a woman in labor. Some pregnant women already have a ton of fear and anxieties about going through childbirth and bringing a precious baby into this crazy hectic world. The fear of the unknown is a new reality for most people today. Pregnant women during this time are not sure about what will happen to the hospital where they are supposed to give birth, especially if this outbreak gets even worse. More women today are considering an at-home birth.

    Mama you are so brave!

While there is still so much uncertainty today, there is still hope and favourableness for every pregnant woman out there. We as women have to influence others and spread as much positivity as possible. Call that pregnant friend of yours, send her a text message and see if she needs anything, just be there for her if she needs to vent. The end of this era will prove once again that women everywhere are warriors.

Extra precautions to take while pregnant:

“Pregnancy-related coronavirus information from the CDC is limited. But Rochester is advising her patients to treat COVID-19 similarly to other viruses, such as the seasonal flu, and take the same precautions to prevent it.”

    These precautions include:

    • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water. Wash for at least 20 seconds before you eat, after you sneeze and after using the bathroom.
    • Use alcohol-based hand sanitizers in addition to hand-washing.
    • Regularly clean surfaces like counters and your mobile phone.
    • Avoid community candy jars, and be careful at buffets, where many people touch surfaces or utensils.
    • Sneeze and cough into a sleeve rather than into your hand or the air.
    • Avoid contact with anyone with cold or flu symptoms.
    • Stay home from work or school if you are sick.
    • If you’re sick or immunocompromised, avoid places with large numbers of people.

“The good news is that thus far there hasn’t been any indication that pregnant women are more severely affected” by the novel virus, says Dr. Denise Jamieson, chair of the department of gynecology and obstetrics at Emory Healthcare and a senior author of a prepress review paper slated to publish in the American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology.

We as a nation need to come together and support one another during these times. I am asking you to reach out to the pregnant women, spread and share some positivity and love!
